Parasitology

The Department of Parasitology performs examinations for the presence of parasites of farm animals, animals in hobby breeding, wild animals, fish and bees in droppings, fur, feathers, blood and in section material. We also detect antibodies against selected types of parasites in blood, serum, meat juice and milk. The department of parasitology also perform the diagnosis of leptospirosis and dermatophytosis. The diagnosis of leptospirosis consists in the detection of antibodies in blood serum and milk and in the proof of the pathogen by culture and the PCR technique. Dermatophytoses (caused by the genera Microsporum and Trichophyton) are diagnosed microscopically and by culture.

The specialization of the parasitology department is the detection of parasites in exotic and ZOO animals, especially in amphibians and reptiles.
Our activity also includes interpretation of results, consultation and advisory activities, especially in the area of prevention and therapy of diagnosed diseases.
